Here’s more about the talented artist:\n“My work is a release – akin to meditation\, a relief from the chaos of our day to day lives. Over the last two years\, houses and architecture have become the zenith of my work. They are sanctuaries…somewhere to catch up\, take a breath\, recharge. The world I portray is sometimes yours and mine and sometimes a more magical place – I call it future primitive. It is a potential path or maybe just a way to reconnect with more pure ideas of culture from our past. It is knowing empires crumble\, but accepting the growth that emerges in the aftermath.\nI grew up going between the woods/quiet of South Bend\, IN and the best city in the world\, Chicago. This back and forth continues in my work with conscious\, realized line work coupling with abstract mark making. That moment of potential\, that feeling of the unknown\, is the foundation of my work thanks to years of traveling – staying open to possibility while maintaining a plan\, a dystopian harmony between what is and what could be.” \n

DESCRIPTION:Hey summer readers! You’ve been working hard on your Reading Without Walls BookBar Bingo cards and it’s time to celebrate. Meet the amazing Jennifer Chambliss Bertman\, author of the adventuresome Book Scavenger\, to hear all about the sequel\, The Unbroken Code. Then\, set off on a scavenger hunt and work together to find clues on Tennyson Street that will get us to Smiley Library’s Ice Cream Social and Music Show. Smiley Branch Library \nJennifer Chambliss Bertman writes stories with a bit of mystery\, a bit of humor\, and a lot of fun. Her debut novel\, Book Scavenger (Christy Ottaviano Books/Henry Holt for Young Readers)\, was an Indie Next Kids’ Top Ten Pick\, a Junior Library Guild selection\, and one of five titles chosen for Publisher’s Weekly Best Summer Middle Grade Books for 2015\, among other accolades. A sequel titled The Unbreakable Code will be published in 2016\, followed by a stand-alone middle grade mystery in 2017. She has an MFA in creative writing and worked in publishing for over a decade before becoming a children’s book author. \nAbout The Unbreakable Code \nMr. Quisling is definitely up to something mysterious\, and Emily and James are on high alert. First\, there’s the coded note he drops at a book event. Then\, they uncover a trail of encrypted messages in Mark Twain-penned books hidden through Book Scavenger. What’s most suspicious is that each hidden book triggers an arson fire. \nAs the sleuthing friends dig deeper\, they discover Mr. Quisling has been hunting a legendary historical puzzle: the Unbreakable Code. DESCRIPTION:Join us for art\, drinks and a good time this #FirstFriday with artist Anthony Nguyen. \nAbout The Artist:\nAnthony Nguyen\, also spelled Enthonee Wynn\, pseudonym of Annthiny Nuyenn\, Antho also spelled Aquen or Aken\, (born c. 1980 Oklahoma City\, Oklahoma. Brilliant and original Central Oklahoman painter\, now located in Denver\, Colorado; whose work reveals an unusual iconography of a complex and individual style. He was recognized as a highly imaginative “creator of devils” and a powerful inventor of seeming nonsense full of satirical and moralizing meaning. Nguyen is a pessimistic and stern moralist who has neither illusions about the rationality of human nature nor confidence in the kindness of a world that had been corrupted by human presence in it. His paintings are sermons on folly and sin\, addressed often to initiate and consequently difficult to translate. Unable to unlock the mystery of the artist’s works\, critics at first believed that he must have been affiliated with secret sects. \n
